Black coco Beans
Black coco Beans
Phaseolus vulgaris (60 days to shell, 85 days to dry)This open-pollinated bean is known for its triple-treat qualities. It produces an abundance of 5" round pods on 2' plants and is resistant to shattering in the garden. The seeds are shiny and black, with a plump shape that makes them easy to shell. This bean can be harvested young as a green bean or left for ten days to be used as a shell bean. A great way to enjoy it is as a refried or soup bean. This French heirloom was first grown in the Rio Coco area of Nicaragua and Honduras and only became popular in the mid-1900s for its deep, rich color.
